SUMMARY:Incoming Journey from Lower Columbia\, Washington
DESCRIPTION:We are looking forward to having Lower Columbia come to see the sights of Cedar Rapids. We have a full schedule and would love to see all Club members participate if possible. If you are available to day host for any of the days please contact Host Coordinator Stephanie Schulte or Jerry Burke. For several of the days\, we will need to have specific numbers of those interested in attending. \nOn Tuesday Sept. 5 the Journey will begin with a Welcome Party at George & Stephanie Schulte’s house\, 523 Rockvalley Dr. SW at 5:30 pm. We are having pulled pork sandwiches and asking those who attend to bring appetizers or dessert. Wine\, beer and soda will be provided. \nOn Wednesday\, we would love to have you meet us for lunch at the 350 First restaurant at the Doubletree Hilton. We will use the $10 menu which includes tax but not gratuity. At 1 pm\, Turner Alley and 2 pm will be the Art Museum\, $7\, which has a special exhibit of Grant Wood through October. \nThursday\, we are spending the day in the Amanas and MUST have reservations by August 18th. The morning will take us to the Amana Museum for $3\, lunch at PHAT Daddy’s for $12\, Footloose at the Old Creamery Theatre at 1:30 for $27 and dinner at the Ox Yoke for $22. \nFriday is a John Deere tour in Waterloo\, lunch on your own in Independ-ence and tour of Cedar Rock\, a Frank Lloyd Wright house for $5. \nSunday we are going to have dinner with the Open World group at Lowe Park. Cost is $20 per person and includes a 2 entree buffet\, dessert and beverage. RSVP to Mary Stull at 393-6254 or mcdstull@aol.com by Sept. 3. \nMonday\, Sept 11th\, we are going to West Branch\, $7\, lunch on our own and then a chance to see a driving simulator at the University of Iowa in Coralville. We MUST have reservations for the simulator also by August 18th. There is no cost but the size of the group is limited. DESCRIPTION:Delegates from Kosovo will explore the topic of Multilingualism and Access of Public Information.  Steve Williams and committee are creating a program for the week\, focusing on language and communication in schools\, media and government. Iowa has an established relationship with Kosovo as a sister state and its Embassy has a Consulate office in Des Moines. \nFriday\, Sept. 8: 6:30pm Potluck Dinner at Marion; Heritage Center. Meat\, Paper Products\, and Beverage furnished. Bring a salad\, dessert or vegetable. All FF club members invited.\nSaturday\, Sept. 9: Touring Dubuque\nSunday\, Sept. 10: 5:30pm Catered dinner\, combined with Lower Columbia WA Journey\, at Lowe Park\, Hickory room. All FF Club members invited.\nMonday\, Sept. 11: West Liberty- Iowa City Day – Gayle Bray hosting. Visit local schools to learn about languages.\nTuesday\, Sept. 12: Visit NCSML\, Marion Rotary\, Kirkwood Community College\, with dinner at the Williams’ home.\nWednesday\, Sept. 13: Meet with Congressional Officials in Cedar Rapids and educators at University of Iowa\nThursday\, Sept. 14: Travel to Des Moines to visit the Kosovo Consulate and tour the State Capitol\nFriday\, Sept. 15: Visit Hoover Elementary\, Islamic Center\, and job shadow. Farewell Potluck Dinner at Marion Heritage Center. The dinner is open to all. Meat\, beverage and tableware will be provided. Bring a dish to share. \n
