Outgoing Mini-Journey to Chicago

July 13, 2018 @ 8:00 am - July 16, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

Friday (July 13) Car pool to Chicago,  arrive in evening and meet hosts.
Saturday (July 14) Guided tours of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home and Studio and Unity Temple in Oak Park in the morning. The afternoon we will explore downtown Chicago and the Art Institute. The day will end with a deli picnic dinner and Concert in Grant Park. The Concert title is “I Could Have Danced All Night: Broadway’s Lerner and Loewe”. You will recognize classic Broadway tunes from Camelot, Brigadoon, My Fair Lady and Gigi.
Sunday will be a free day with your hosts. An opportunity to ask about Chicago River boat rides, theater opportunities, the Field Museum and other favorite haunts. Sometimes the best Friendship Force experiences are the ones you don’t plan.

Monday is travel day back west toward home. We will stop in Aurora for a self-guided tour of a beautiful Hindu Temple—-the Sri Venda-Teswara Swami Temple. Later we stop in LaSalle for a step back in time as we enjoy a mule-pulled guided 1840s replica canal boat ride as it gently coasts down the I & M Canal. Mary Todd Lincoln has been known to ride this boat, knitting in the corner and telling fantastic stories in the nation’s capitol with Mr. Lincoln.

Transportation is on your own but we are encouraging carpooling. If you can drive, please indicate if you can take others and how many. Tentative costs are: $30 to FFI for home hosting, $21 Art Institute, $14 FLW Home Tour, $13 for Canal Ride. Meals are on your own. The Hindu Temple and the Concert are free.  Please contact Marian Wetjen at 319-330-2088 mwetjen27@yahoo.com.
