Outgoing Central Virginia (Charlottesville, Virginia)October 9-17, 2013
Thirteen ambassadors boarded a train for their overnight trip to Charlottesville (C’ville.) Some really liked the train trip and others weren’t as pleased.
Oct. 9 – The group arrived in Charlottesville in the evening in pouring rain. The evening was spent getting to know hosts. The warm soup tasted wonderful with the chilly rain.
Oct. 10 – The CR group just hung out or did some sightseeing in the morning. The UK ambassadors arrived in the afternoon in time for the welcome potluck where all ambassadors were given welcome bags.
Oct. 11 – The day included: C’ville Historical Tour, lunch, Omni hotel, Mayor in Chambers, Paramount theatre, Christ Episcopal Church; Tiffany stained glass windows, mini Organ Concert, McGuffey Art center, UVA Lawn, Rotunda, Etc.
Oct 12 – Free day to spend with host
Oct 13 – Free day to spend with host
Oct 14 – Everyone loaded up in vans and headed to Richmond stopping first at St. Johns Historical Church where the guide had a great history lesson. After getting lost we found the Capital and enjoyed a tour of this historical building noting it was much smaller then Iowa’s capital building. After two other stops, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Virginia Historical Society, we head back to our host homes.
Oct 15 – Again loading into vans we toured Shenandoah Valley, Visited EMU and heard a lecture on Anabaptist.
Oct 16 – Next was a trip to Thomas Jefferson’s home Monticello and another short trip to Michie Tavern where we had a tour and our farewell party.
Oct. 17 – The Cedar Rapids ambassadors boarded a train for their 2-day travels home. Everyone agreed that this was a wonderful, educational and fun filled journey.
